The car situation from yesterday still has me pondering life. Specifically my life, but society as well.
Yesterday I had packed my day so full that I was rushing through tasks. I had woke up later than I wanted, barely made it to church on time, signed up for a CrossFit challenge at a gym in town, had to fuel up the car, then was on my way to a bridal shower in Columbus. I had a million things on my mind and was focused only on my little world. Or maybe only partly focused on my world since I put the wrong fuel in. You can read about yesterdays shenanigans here.
A while back my pastor used the saying “are you too busy to stop for gas?“ In other words, is your life too busy, too crazy, too chaotic to refuel. We are only human and we need a break to rest, recharge, and refuel. He dug even deeper by mentioning that we can’t go anywhere on an empty tank and therefore can’t carry out our agenda for the day or help others with theirs.
Yesterday I was shown that my life may be too crazy and too chaotic to refuel when necessary. I was in such a hurry that I wasn’t even paying attention to what kind of fuel I put in my vehicle. I caused myself more damage by rushing than I would if I would have just taken a minute to breathe. Not only was I waiting for close to two hours on the side of the road in a hot car, but I missed my friend’s bridal shower and I’m looking at an expensive fix. Thank goodness my dad is an engineer and (usually) likes to fix things. Many thanks to him and his patience with me.
So, you may be wondering what my crazy life has to do with you…nothing, you’re right. But, it has a lot to do with other people. If we can make space to refuel, we tend to be more forgiving to others. For instance, if they accidentally cut you off on the road you have patience instead of becoming angry. We also then can use our time to help others and isn’t that what this life is all about? We essentially are all on the same journey just at different parts of the race.
Are there things in your life that are keeping you too busy to rest and refuel? Take a few minutes with me to examine where you can spend time resting and refueling instead of succumbing to the busyness of our world.
Rest up and always Stay Adventurous!
